Opened in May, 1993 as the Midwest's first museum and cultural center of its kind, Omaha's El Latino Museum offers an ever-changing array of Latino art, history and cultural exhibits, as well as educational workshops and annual events focusing on the rich Latino culture found in the Midwest and throughout the world. Past exhibits have included a colorful display of Oaxacan alebrijes, popularized by folk art woodcarver Manuel Jimenez; an impressive exhibit of beaded works and Nerikas showcasing the art of the indigenous Huichol of Western Central Mexico; and "Silver and Copper From Santa Clara del Cobre," a display of works by artist Ignacio Punzo. Offering guided tours and bi-lingual visits, the museum is located in South Omaha, just minutes away from the Czechoslovak Museum.
Open Mon., Wed. & Fri. 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Tue. & Thu. 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.; Sat. 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.; Closed Sun.
General Admission $5; College Students with ID $4; Students (K-12), Senior Citizens & Military with ID $3.50; Children under 5 are free.
